Body Wash

Client: Method
Year: 2023

In 2021, Method wanted to expand their successful body wash product to include a larger size. The package needed to be visually consistent with the existing 18oz packaging, but needed to offer additional benefits for consumers looking to purchase a larger package beyond price per fluid ounce. It also needed to survive ecommerce shipping without leaking and fit within retail shelf dimensions.

Offering a larger product of a successful product is common in the body wash category, but they trade good design and components for cheap stock components to help drive price as low as possible. During our research phase, we started by using a number of competitive products to identify design and user experience opportunities. We also took note of common shower layouts and where people place these types of products.

We prototyped and tested several bottle shapes, and we created a hybrid working pump system using existing components and 3D prints to find the best and worst dispensing experiences. We determined a flatter bottle shape fit better on sides of hybrid tub showers, and a larger custom pump design was easier for consumers to use for a relatively stationary product.

Once the custom bottle and leak-proof pump were refined, we created low and high fidelity prototypes for retailer meetings and for our own review. Graphics, finishes and fragrances were also finalized.

Available for purchase on Target, CVS, Walmart and Amazon.
